At the close of each academic year Coláiste Dún an Rí host an Evening of Excellence Awards. This is an invitation event were parents of students who have achieved excellence in their academic work, extra-curricular or sporting achievements are recognised in a formal setting. The night also features guest speakers.

In the past we have had special guests such as Mr Aogán Ó Fearghaíl, President of the GAA (2017). Mr Ó Fearghaíl is a former school teacher in Cavan and his time as President of the GAA was marked by many positive changes in the GAA.

Ms. Catherina McKiernan joined us in 2018. From Cavan she is a former international long-distance runner and was a gold medal winner at the 1994 European Championships and has also won the Dublin and London Marathons.

In 2019 we were joined by Mr Colm O'Rourke, former All-Ireland winning footballer for Meath and current principal of St. Patricks Classical school Navan. Mr O'Rourke has also made a name for himself through his punditry with RTÉ.

With the arrival of the COVID pandemic we were unable to host awards ceremonies in 2020 and 2021 but we resumed the awards in 2022 with our special guest Ms Fiona Kindlon. Fiona is an All-Ireland winning gaelic footballer and All Star recipient from Monaghan. Fiona is also one of our neighbours playing with the Magheracloone club.

For our 2023 awards our special guest on the evening was Dr Philip Carolan. Philip is a native of Kingscourt and he is a counsultant and partner in the Sports Injury Clinic Santry. Philip is also Team Doctor with the Cavan Senior Mens Football team.

Our guest of honour in 2024 was Mr Emmet Cosgrove, Chief Executive of O'Reilly Group Kingscourt. Emmet has seen the company grow under his leadership and this Kingscourt based company is now one of the largest employers in the north east of Ireland.
