Coláiste Dún an Rí Open Night

Coláiste Dún an Rí Kingscourt hosted it's Open Evening for Sixth Class students from local primary schools on October 11th. A large crowd attended to view the school, meet staff and students, and to experience a snapshot of life in the school. Visitors got to visit all subject areas and find out about the school’s recent successes in the Leaving Cert examinations and extra-curricular activities.

In his address to parents, Principal Fergal Boyle outlined the successes of the school to date and the educational experience that students will receive in Coláiste Dún an Rí. The principal outlined the various supports available to students as they progress through the school and also detailed the school's extensive extracurricular program.

Last year the school had considerable success in the sporting and science spheres winning regional competitions in girls’ Gaelic football and basketball and won the regional under 17 boys’ competition in soccer. The school also had considerable success in the BT Young Scientist competition and won the overall national award in the Scifest competition. Another highlight of the year was success in the Irish Angus beef competition.

Mr Boyle also mentioned the successes of last year leaving cert students, the first students to complete the Leaving Cert in the school. One third of leaving cert students in the school received over 500 points in the Leaving Cert with students also achieving over 600 points. Students have gone on to attend colleges such as UCD, DCU and Trinity College while other students have progressed to apprenticeships and the world of work.

Parents were also informed that work on the new school extension is anticipated to commence in 2023 and this project when completed will bring the school to a capacity of 1000 pupils.

Coláiste Dún an Rí is now enrolling for First Year students for September 2023. Application forms have been distributed to the local primary schools and are also available directly from the school. The closing date for applications to enroll in the school is November 18th. Parents are invited to contact the school directly or visit the school website www.colaistedunanri.ie if they have any queries.
