Junior Cycle

Coláiste Dún an Rí is delighted to embrace the new Junior Cycle education programme.  The Junior Cycle places students at the centre of the educational experience, enabling them to actively participate in their communities and in society and to be resourceful and confident learners in all aspects and stages of their lives. Students who enrol in Coláiste Dún an Rí this year will engage with a fully reformed Junior Cycle as each subject has now been phased in. The junior cycle offers students new more active ways of learning. Teachers will bring new and innovative pedagogical approaches into their classrooms and assessment will no longer simply rely on end of term examinations, but rather, new assessment practices where teachers and students work together to advance student learning, will be normal practice.

Over the three year junior cycle programme students will engage in a number of classroom based assessments that will help develop a number of key life-long skills. While there will still be a final summative assessment, set and marked by the State Examinations Commission, the new Junior Cycle Profile of Achievement that each student will receive at the end of their three years, will capture all the areas of learning that students have been engaged in.
